Updated Ramadan Guide for 2026

17/02/2026

Edinburgh South Community Football Club is sharing our updated Ramadan Guide for 2026 with you ahead of Ramadan beginning on the evening of 17th or 18th February (dependent on the sighting of the crescent moon).

We want to support players, coaches, and families within the ESCFC community who will be observing Ramadan and fasting. For young players especially, fasting can affect energy levels, recovery, and concentration. Whether we personally fast or not, it is our responsibility to understand what some of our players, coaches, and families are managing during this period, so they can—where possible—continue to enjoy and participate in football safely.

As coaches, we are role models. Being aware of Ramadan and making appropriate adjustments is not “special treatment” — it is good coaching. It helps keep players safe, supports performance, and ensures equality and fairness across our teams and wider community.

We are working hard to be an anti-racist club and to show strong allyship with people from different races, religions, and cultures. This means actively creating an environment where every player, coach, and person connected with ESCFC feels understood, valued, and supported.

Our actions make a real difference to the culture of our club.

We ask you to:

  • Read the guide — it includes helpful hints, tips, and lived experiences.
  • Share the guide in your team, players, families, and within your wider networks if you wish.
  • Check who is observing Ramadan within your team and community.
  • Have open conversations and make reasonable adjustments with players and/or fellow coaches.
  • Ask us if you have any questions.
  • Be curious and respectful — understanding starts with listening.

Thank you for helping us make Edinburgh South CFC an inclusive, supportive, and welcoming community for everyone. Click on the link one the title  below to access the full Guide,
