?Malawi Kit Appeal?

Some of you will be aware that Edinburgh South have supported the ‘Changing Lives Malawi’ charity for a few years now through our kit appeal (https://changinglivesmalawi.com/?amp=1). Children and young people in Malawi have received our pre-used kit, and now wear it not only when playing football, but to school and in their day-to-day lives.

Due to the size of our club, we are in a strong position to make a substantial donation of kit every year to this charity. We have comfortably over 1000 players in the club, all of which have 1 kit each, most of have 2, and some have 3! On average, teams are replenishing kit every 12-18 months. You can do the maths on that! A lot of kit cycles through our club year after year!

Moving forward, we are hoping to have 2 kit appeals a year. One in the winter, and one in the summer. The main reason for this is that teams often order new kits during the summer for the new season starting in August (boys), but also in the winter for when the girls teams are starting their respective seasons in February. It also means that if you miss the deadline for dropping off kit, it doesn’t have to sit in the boot of your car for a year - you can still drop it off and we can send it out with the next batch a few months down the line.

As for this winter’s appeal, we’ll be doing a big push over the coming weeks. The cut off point for handing in kit will be Friday 13th February. Kit should NOT be handed in as individual items. We’ll be sending away kit in batches to be shipped to Malawi for teams to use, so it needs to be matching sets! Coaches (or perhaps a parent/carer?) could take responsibility for collating the team’s kit and bringing it in together. We’re not worried about it being neatly folded. As long it’s washed and clean! Kit should be dropped of at Inch Park Community Sports Club, changing room 3. The room is clearly signposted when entering the building.

Recycling kits should be common practice among coaches and teams. There are teams who are already in the habit of gathering in all their kit as soon as they’ve picked up their new kits from Football Nation! We are also accepting boots and base layers (clean too) if families want to hand those in, albeit, Edinburgh South branded kit is the main priority. There are plans in place to keep certain items of kit back too for our own coaches to access for trialists and a general spare kit supply.

It is the responsibility of teams’ individual coaches (or designated adults/parents) that old kit is collected in and dropped off at Inch Park by the 13th February. Happy for anyone to message or email me at jp.mason@escfc.co.uk if they’re unsure of anything.
