Edinburgh South win Scottish Cup for the first time

30/04/2025

Edinburgh South Community Football Club (ESCFC) has made history, lifting the Scottish Cup for the first time since the club’s founding in 1969.

The club’s 2012s team secured a memorable victory at Falkirk Stadium in front of nearly 1,000 travelling supporters, with an additional 700 fans following the match online — a powerful showcase of the club’s deep community roots and growing reach.

This win was not just about lifting a trophy; it was a celebration of Edinburgh South ESCFC’s enduring ethos: opportunity, development, and community for all. The club operates on the principle that if you want to play, you play — focusing on inclusion, growth, and belonging over early selection.

Adding to the historic nature of the day, a player from Edinburgh South’s first-ever Scottish Cup Final appearance 25 years ago proudly watched his son help deliver the club’s first title. The captain from that earlier final now coaches in the club’s senior men’s First Team in the East of Scotland Football League, showing how generations continue to give back to the club.

"This victory means everything — not just because of the trophy, but because of the journey it represents," said Joe Sneddon, CEO of Edinburgh South ESCFC. "It’s a showcase of community football at its best — opportunities created, values lived, and futures shaped."

Edinburgh South ESCFC is now the second-largest community football club in Scotland, behind only Giffnock SC. With over 75 teams, more than 1,000 players, and over 200 active volunteers, the club remains steadfast in its mission to create opportunity, foster growth, and champion the transformative power of football for all.
